Video: Climate Change Is the Theme of the First EcoFest

The festival mixed music and fun to raise awareness about climate change.

The Sukyo Mahikari Center for Spiritual Development in Altadena partnered with 350.org to put on its first EcoFest on Oct. 10, which featured various eco-friendly organizations who provided information on how individuals can make simple changes in their daily lives to help fight climate change.

About 100 people turned out, many drawn in from the street by the free music.

Organic popcorn and lemonade was provided to refresh the crowd in the hot sun, and kids were entertained at a craft table where they made origami hats out of recycled newspapers.

Some of the organizations at the event were the TreePeople, the National Wildlife Federation, and Heal the Bay.  There was also information on how to create an eco-friendly backyard, how to dispose of food waste properly, and how to grow backyard vegetables in biodegradable peat pots.

Amidst the booths were various performances, including the Kiriko Taiko Japanese Style-Drumming, The Getty Rox band, a dance performance by Dance 4 Oceans Thrill the World Los Angeles, and poetry readings by Susan Rogers.

The organization is called "350.org" because scientists have theorized that the safest upper limit for carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is 350 parts per million.  Currently, we are past that. Check out the video below.
