CHP: Traffic Collisions Increase in Altadena

Collisions are up and citations are down in Altadena compared to last month, according to California Highway Patrol. See the full stats here.

California Highway Patrol released info on traffic collisions and citations in Altadena for May and June this week. Traffic collisions were up to 27 in June, compared to 21 in May. Citations fell to 39 in June, versus 64 in May. See the full stats below.

CHP Officer Kevin Denmon said at Tuesday’s Altadena Town Council meeting that two officers have been absent from the Altadena patrol area and that was the reason that citations were down in June. One officer was on leave due to a shoulder injury, and the other was serving the La Crescenta area. Now that the full force is back, Officer Denmon said that he expects citations to increase and, hopefully, collisions will decrease.

Officer Denmon said the most common causes of accidents in the Altadena area are speeding, lane changing and right-of-way violations. Slowing down, leaving earlier to allow extra travel time and paying more attention on the road can prevent accidents.
