Updated: Hiker Dies After Fall at Eaton Canyon Friday

One hiker in an Eaton Canyon Rescue Friday was pronounced dead on arrival.

Updated Saturday, 8:25 a.m. The victim was identified as Esther Yieng Suen of Alhambra, City News Service reports. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The male's injuries are unknown at this time.

The Daily News reports that the victim was a 17-year-old girl and the injured hiker was an 18-year-old man.

La County Fire Department received a call at 11:27 a.m. Friday that two people had fallen approximately 200 feet at Eaton Canyon, Los Angeles County Fire  Department Inspector Quvondo Johnson told Patch.

After county fire officials arrived at the scene via helicopter they made contact with two uninjured hikers and made their way to the two injured hikers.

One of the hikers had an unspecified injury and was airlifted to a nearby hospital and the other was dead on arrival, in full cardiac arrest.

Johnson did not know the ages or gender of the rescued hikers.

The incident is under investigation.

Altadena Sheriff’s Station units responded to an Eaton Canyon Rescue for a woman hanging from a cliff Friday, which turned into a rescue for several people and one fatality.

The Altadena Sheriff’s Station tweeted around 12:45 p.m. Friday:

"Eaton Canyon Rescue Update:3 hikers were rescued. Sadly, a fourth suffered a fatal head injury in the fall."

The Los Angeles County Fire Department said one hiker died and another was injured in a fall in the Eaton Canyon area, City News Service reported.

The hikers fell in the 2200 block of Pinecrest Drive and the survivor was taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries, fire officials said, according to CNS.
