Man Arrested for Chevy Tailgate Thefts
A week after the Sheriff's Department reported that Chevy Silverado tailgates were being targeted for theft in Altadena, the department has made an arrest of the suspected thief.
Detectives from the Altadena Sheriff's Station arrested a Pasadena resident Tuesday evening for the suspected theft of eight Chevy Silverado tailgates, according to Lt. Duane Allen of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Wesley Taylor, 34, of Pasadena, was arrested at his home after police arrived with a search warrant to look for the stolen property. Three Chevy tailgates were found at his home during the search, according to Allen.
The department had reported last week that there seemed to be an unusual number of thefts of Chevy Silverado tailgates. Detectives have not ascertained the motivation behind the crime, Allen said.
In total seven tailgates were stolen in Altadena, and one was stolen in Pasadena, Allen said.
Allen said he was unable to reveal the details behind how detectives tracked the tailgates to Taylor's home because it could provide valuable information to other thieves on police tactics. However, he did suggest that Taylor was not particularly smart about covering his tracks.
"We can only hope that more crooks did what he did," Allen said. "He made it pretty easy on us."
