Pasadena Marathon Route (Graphic)

Here's all the information you need for the 2012 Pasadena Marathon on Sunday from the route, to street closures, to schedules and everything else.

If you plan to stay up in Altadena all day, May 20, the day of the Pasadena Marathon is like any other.

But if on Sunday you need to go into Pasadena, down to the 210 Freeway, find parking, head to facilities at the Rose Bowl or if you are a participant, it's a whole different story.

So here is all the information you need: attached to this article is a map of the route for participants, and a map of street closures and crossing points in the marathon route.   The streets become totally open again at 2 p.m.  Before then, consult the map.

Street Closures on Race Day 

Beginning at 5:00 am on race day, Pasadena Police will assume control of the streets with restricted vehicular access only through designated intermittent traffic control points and those streets not affected by the route. Residents and visitors to the City should be advised to expect delays when traveling within the City.  Streets will re-open according to a 15 minute per mile time clock.  Please reference the attached street closure map to see when streets will re-open in your neighborhood.  The Pasadena Police Department reminds residents to remain patient when driving in the City.  Everyone should drive slowly and with caution. 

Parking Information for Residents & Businesses 

In preparation for the event, the route will be posted with no parking restrictions.  Overnight parking restrictions will be lifted citywide within a ¼ mile radius of the marathon route from 1:00 am – 2:00 pm on race day.  During this time, parking permits will NOT be required to park on City streets within this area.  However, all other parking restrictions and prohibitions will apply, including temporary tow away zones, parking near fire hydrants and in red zones.

Freeway Off-ramp Closures 

The Seco/Mountain off-ramps on the 210 freeway will be closed from 5:30 am – 11:00 am on Sunday, May 20th. Additionally, the Orange Grove off-ramp from the 134 fwy (eastbound) will be closed from 5:30 am – 8:30 am on Sunday, May 20th.  All other freeway ramps will remain open.  Please plan your travel accordingly. 

BROOKSIDE GOLF COURSE/ROSE BOWL:  Roads in and around the Arroyo will be closed from approximately 5:00 am – 10:15 am.  For employees, golfers and patrons requiring access during this time the recommended detour route is the 210 freeway Arroyo Blvd/Windsor exit to Rose Bowl Drive where Pasadena Police will allow assist motorists across Rosemont into the Clubhouse parking lot.  The Mountain/Seco exit will be closed during these same hours. 

KIDSPACE/AQUATICS CENTER:  Roads in and around the Arroyo will be closed from approximately 5:00 am – 10:15 am.  For employees and patrons requiring access during this time, patrons traveling westbound on the 134 freeway can exit at Orange Grove/Colorado, proceed north on Orange Grove, west on Holly Street, turn south onArroyo Drive, proceed north on Arroyo Blvd. and turn right into Lot I.  For employees and patrons traveling eastbound on the 134 freeway can exit at San Rafael, proceed north on Linda Vista, east on Holly Street, turn south on Arroyo Drive, proceed north on Orange Grove and turn right into Lot I.  The Mountain/Seco exit will be closed during these same hours. 

PASADENA CONVENTION CENTER: Colorado between Euclid and San Rafael will be closed from approximately 5:00 am – 9:30 am. The recommended freeway off-ramp is the Marengo exit on the 210 freeway. Proceed southbound on Marengo, eastbound on Walnut, southbound on Los Robles, westbound on Cordova, northbound on Euclid to the driveway entrance.

PLAYHOUSE DISTRICT: There will not be any streets closures within the Playhouse District.  Union and Green between Los Robles and Lake will be open for thru traffic.  The recommended freeway off-ramp is the Lake Avenue exit. 

OLD PASADENA MANAGEMENT DISTRICT:  Colorado between Marengo & San Rafael and Green between Orange Grove & Pasadena Avenue will be closed from approximately 5:00 am – 8:30 am.  For merchants requiring access north of Colorado during this time please use the Fair Oaks off-ramp from the 210 fwy.  For merchants requiring access south of Colorado during this time please use the Del Mar off-ramp from the 710 freeway or the Arroyo exit from the 110 freeway. 

SOUTH LAKE BUSINESS DISTRICT:  California between Marengo & Wislon and Del Mar between Sierra Bonita & Wilson will be closed from approximately 5:00 am – 9:30 am.  During this time, access within the district will be on north/south streets such as Lake, Mentor, & Hudson.  The recommended freeway off-ramp is the Lake Avenue exit on the 210 freeway. 

PASEO COLORADO: Colorado between Marengo and San Rafael will be closed from approximately 5:00 am – 9:30 am.  During this time, the Paseo Colorado parking structure will be accessible to motor vehicles traveling westbound on Colorado Blvd. at the Euclid entrance.  The recommended freeway off-ramp is the Lake Avenue exit on the 210 freeway. 

CALTECH:  Due to closures on Hill, Wilson, Del Mar & California between 5:00 am – 9:30 am, anyone requiring access to the Caltech campus should use the following detour routes:  if traveling eastbound on the 210 freeway use the Altadena/Sierra Madre off-ramp and if traveling westbound on the 210 freeway use the Allen off-ramp. 

ROSE BOWL LOOP ACCESS: The Rose Bowl loop will have extremely limited access for general recreational users.  Anyone wishing to jog, bike or walk around the Bowl should take Arroyo Drive from Holly Street, proceed northbound on Arroyo Blvd., and turn right into Lot I in front of Brookside Park.    

Church Detour Information 

We understand that your normal routes to and from your places of worship may be impacted by street closures. Pasadena Marathon has outreached to each of the churches along the route to provide recommended detour and travel routes.  Please log-on to http://www.pasadenamarathon.org/residents/faith-communities and click on the “Pasadena Residents” link to access this information.  Please plan your schedule accordingly as there will be delays when traveling thru the City on race day.
