Prostesters Attempt Halt of Oak Destruction in Arcadia Woodlands

Protesters, media, sheriff's department descend on Arcadia Woodlands as demolition begins.

According to reports by Arcadia Patch, four opponents of the county's plan to bulldoze 11 acres of oak woodlands have entered the construction site and are stationed up to 50 feet high in oak trees in an attempt to stop further progress on the project.

Though the attempt to halt construction in the woodlands is being made, the demolition of oaks has still commenced. Bulldozers are being very careful not to cut down trees in which sitters are stationed.

Visit Arcadia Patch for the full story.

What do you think of the protesters' attempts to stop the destruction? Tell us in the comments.

I would like to know where the California Oaks Protection Law went. I was always told that our California Oaks are protected, I guess that is until some big wig wants to do something with the property. Now what is going to happen when we have weeks of rain like we just went through? Is all that sediment they plan on dumping going to wash down on the homes below because there is nothing to hold it. They could have been filling up pits all over this area instead of ruining our wild life reserves. With a little luck it will come around and bite them in the butts.

My thoughts exactly......I have been told by a couple of arborists about the laws about removing a California Scrub Oak from my own property, and heard of several build sites that had to be changed because of existing oaks.........but it is okay for the county to dig up acres of them? Hmm!

Also.......the strip mines have decimated so many acres ......just take a look at Irwindale! There wasn't a plan to dump the obviously nutrient rich sediment in an area that could use it?
