Sheriff's Department Releases New Crime Mapping Function

The plan gives better information for residents near the Pasadena border

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is now tracking all crime on a new website, crimemapping.com, for all areas that it patrols, including Altadena.

Putting the data on the new site is a benefit for Altadena residents who live near the border with Pasadena, as crimes listed by the Pasadena Police Department are also displayed at crimemapping.com.

Previously, the Sheriff's Department had listed crime data on another website, making it difficult for residents who live near the boundaries of either city to accurately track crime in their neighborhood.

The customizable map service allows users to enter an address and look at all crime nearby the area with a radius ranging from 500 feet to 2 miles.  Users can also look at different types of crime and create customized reports from the service.

The sample map snapshot attached to this article shows all crime reported at the intersection of Marengo Street and Sacramento Avenue for the month of May.  The intersection was the .
