What Kind of Businesses Do You Want to See in Altadena?

Local business members and the Chamber of Commerce want your help in figuring out what the future of the Altadena business community should be.

The paucity of strong local commercial options for Altadena community members has been a frequent subject of discussion on Patch forums.

We've discussed the struggle of local business owners to promote their shops, the closure of several businesses on Lake Avenue, and the attitude of county officials about local Altadena businesses.

In an effort to take the first step towards doing something about these issues, we at Patch collaborated with Ed Meyers, a board member of the Chamber of Commence, local business owner Lori Webster, and Dan Harlow an Altadena resident who runs Harlow Technologies Inc.

Our role here was in discussing the issues and helping to get the group together, but the survey itself was mainly the work of those three individuals.

From Meyers: "The purpose of the survey is to better understand the community's shopping habits along with a way to gauge what type of additional retail the town would support. We hope to share the gathered information with both LA County Economic Development departments and other potential business partners."

You can take the survey at surveyaltadena.com and though it takes a few minutes to do so, it will go towards giving business owners and officials a sense of what people in the community want from their businesses.

About this column: We want to understand the needs of our reader, and occasionally, it is beneficial to get feedback through a column.
What kinds of businesses would you like to see in Altadena? Tell us in the comments.

Thanks for taking the time to make the survey. I hope that there is good feedback to it.

A decent coffee shop, such as Pete's or Swork. "local" mom and pop businesses are great, as long as they actually provide good services. Perhaps with the sale of long term-owned businesses, finally the chamber will not have such a conflict of interest...really trying to avoid competition rather than serving the community. Hardware store is great, as long as there is some inventory in it. Improved pharmacy.
Independent grocer on Lake, or facilitate Ralphs in expanding onto the empty lot next to it.

Took the survey. Fast and easy. I'll be most interested to see the results.

Thanks - we will be publishing the compiled results on the site in about a month or so as we want this to be as open as possible and everyone to see what we are hearing from folks.
