For those who have lived in the area but never visited Hahamongna Watershed Park, the walkabout is a way to learn about the place's history, ecology, and more.
Participants will take an escorted walking tour of Hahamongna, stopping at strategically placed learning stations to discover about the habitat, wildlife, birds and water resources in that unique flood basin at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains.
The term 'walkabout' refers to a trek in Australia where young travel in the outback to discover personal identity and cultural awareness through an intense nature experience.
The tour is also meant to discuss new threats to the park.
The meeting spot for the event will be the lower parking lots of off Oak Grove Drive.
Walking tours leave every 30 minutes from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and reserving a spot in advance is recommended. There is no cost.
