PROPOSED DAY CARE CENTER AND LINCOLN AND CANYON CREST

P There will be a hearing on December 4 to grant a conditional use permit to covert a single  family house on the corner of Canyon Crest and Lincoln into a day care center.  Now is the time for residents to senf  email to the officer in charge letting him know we are opposed. More traffic, parked cars, parents and children walking in the street in the dark.  BAD idea.   Below is the email I have sent to the hearing officer ,the Altadena Town Council and Supervisor Antonovich.   mtashjian@planning.lacounty.gov doug.colliflower@altadenatowncouncil.org http://antonovich.com/e-mail/       Project R2006-00792-(5)   Dear Mr. Tashjian,   As a long time resident of the Meadows (Canyon Crest) community I am dumfounded to think the county would consider granting a conditional use permit for a BUSINESS at the corner of Canyon Crest Dr. and Lincoln Ave.   This is already a busy and dangerous intersection.  Canyon Crest Dr. is the only ingress and egress for the residents of the Meadows.  Lincoln Ave. is also the main entry and exit route for La Vina.  Traffic is especially busy during the early morning and late afternoon/early evening.  Visibility from Canyon Crest is poor when there are no parked cars.  Allowing a day care center would add traffic and parked cars at the busiest times of the day.  Not only will this add pollution ,noise and frustration but will certainly cause accidents.  Ther are no sidewalks on either side of the property.  Parents and small children will be walking in the street amid rush hour traffic.   You must be aware of the increased traffic in this are in recent years as there have been more than one traffic study performed and there is a new traffic management system (islands, etc.) under construction at Lincoln Ave. and  Altadena Dr., only a block away from the subject property.   The other big concern for local residents and everyone who is concerned about land use management and preservation of residential neighborhoods is granting of variances to allow businesses to operate in R-1 zones.  This would set a bad precedent and encourage further encroachment into areas where the infrastructure is designed only for single family homes.   Please reject this application.   Sincerely,   Tina Van Curen 4063 Canyon Dell Drive Altadena, CA 91001

I've read a variety of articles about Patch over the years, including that one. Interesting to seeRead More what media is saying about other media and how often they can get it wrong. Ultimately, I don't consider speculation to be reliable. Thanks for weighing in, Marty.

I think the main issue is the lack of the comment stream - you could see what people were talkingRead More about, and you were often drawn in - and could find the article simply by clicking on the comment. It was the main advantage AltadenaPatch had over AltadenaBlog - much more engaging. No more.

Lisa I am actually holding back, because my comment was up front for two days, and I don't want toRead More look like a hog. As for user friendly....well, maybe. But as with any major revamp, after the foreign feel to navigating, usually the new way feels comfortable eventually. I am not sure either way yet.

And no one is commenting on any stories anymore. This is because the new format is not userRead More friendly.
