5 Things: Coyotes, Orchids, Summer Concert Series

Important local events and stories in Pasadena.

1) There has been lots of chatter about coyote attacks recently on neighborhood listserv groups: according to the posts two dogs have been killed this week by coyotes.  One on Florecita Drive (which was also noted on the Altadenablog) and one near the intersection of Palm and Glenrose.  Additionally, a hillside resident found his dog with a puncture wound in the neck along with a headless pigeon in the yard.  No confirmed sighting of a coyote in that case, but it seems like a good time to keep the pets inside.  Really though, if you live in the foothill areas, any time is probably a good time to do that.

2) The Sheriff's Support Group of Altadena, a non-profit which assits the local Sheriff's Department station, has announced the dates and performers for their at .  The concerts are on Saturdays starting at 7 p.m. from July 9 until August 27.  The performers are all listed on the flyer attached to this story.

3) Altadena resident and JPL employee Michael Gregory tells us that the San Gabriel Valley Orchid Hobbyists will be holding a of their own home-grown orchids at the Los Angeles County Arboretum on May 19.  The group is a branch of the American Orchid Society and has a monthly meeting with guest speakers, and display of members' latest orchids.
