5) Altadena Sheriff's Department volunteer Carolyn Seitz informs us that the department is participating in the Los Angeles County Peace Officer Memorial Torch Run, a memorial run for fallen county deputies that ends each year at the Altadena Sheriff's Station.  The officers will greet runners as they arrive around 2 p.m. during the May 22 event.  Seitz writes that the department will specifically be honoring Charlene "Charlie" Rottler, an Altadena deputy who was badly injured in a 1972 collision while on duty and died last year from related injuries that she sustained in that crash.  According to a tribute writen by a fellow officer, Rottler endured 55 surgeries over the years, but kept living her life as best she could despite the physical setbacks her injuries caused.  Rottler will also be honored separately in a May 25 event at the station.
