5 Things You Need to Know: Local Tuskegee Airman, PUSD Redistricting Plan Meeting, Food Truck Update

Here are some important things to catch up on in the news for Altadena residents.

1) Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Pasadena, has introduced a bill to name the in honor of a local postal worker who served as part of the Tuskegee Airmen in World War II.  Oliver Goodall.  Goodall entered the service as a pilot in 1943.  He was also among 60 African American U.S. Army Air Corps officers who were arrested for trying to peacefully integrate an all-white officers’ club, according to Schiff's press release.  The incident became part of the inspiration for the movement to racially integrate the armed forces.  If the bill is successful, the post office would be known as “First Lieutenant Oliver Goodall Post Office."  Goodall passed away in November.

2) Tonight there is a joint meeting of the Pasadena City Council and the PUSD board to discuss a .  Currently all members are elected at-large.  The measure would have to be approved by voters, and could give Altadena its own district, or several ones with major portions accountable to Altadena voters.  The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. tonight at council chambers at Pasadena City Hall at 100 N. Garfield Avenue. 

3) If you haven't seen the comments on our , it appears that next month's event will feature additional food trucks.  Both the Altadena event planners and the food truck organizer say there was enough demand to merit more trucks.  The event is scheduled for the second Friday of each month from 5 to 9 p.m.

5) After about six weeks of almost exclusively warm, dry weather we've got rain in the forecast intermittently through Saturday.  Wednesday night and Friday night are predicted to be the heavier rain times, with cold weather and low elevation snow accumulation predicted, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
