Altadena Celebrates 125th Birthday (Photos)

Hundreds turned out to dance, eat, mingle and celebrate Altadena's past, present and future at Altadena's 125 Birthday at Farnsworth Park's Davies Building Saturday night.

Defying the expectations of even the organizers, Altadenans came out in droves Saturday night for Altadena's 125th Birthday at Farnsworth's Park's Davies Building.

People of all ages dressed in costumes, danced to "gypsy jazz" by The Bohemians, ate a smorgasboard of food that was donated by local businesses or homemade by residents and explored the many art and historical exhibits that showcased Altadena's scenery, businesses, people, landmarks, natural disasters and more.

"Everybody pitched in," event Chair Michele Zack told Patch Saturday night. "What I didn't expect was 60 sponsors. There's a real hunger. If you ask Altadenans, they will rise to the occasion."

Zack and co-organizers put together the event in seven weeks as a way to celebrate Altadena Heritage's 25th birthday and Altadena's 125th birthday happening this year.

A costume contest, Altadena history presentation, Altadena song and lots of birthday cake also highlighted the evening.
