Altadena Community Garden Launches Revitalization Campaign

The garden plans to expand and is asking for the public's help.

Plans for the Altadena Community Garden Corner Revitalization Project have been finalized but now comes the vital second phase—getting $14,000 worth of plants and planting supplies for the 3, 800 square feet space.

The garden, which began in 1973, shared that the new planting on the property that borders on Lincoln Avenue and Palm Street around the garden will have three areas and multiple functions.

California native plants, cactus and succulent plants, and drought-tolerant Mediterranean plants will make up the corner project.

Purpose of new planting areas:

They will serve as educational tools for the community, providing landscaping ideas for those wishing to create water-conserving landscapes at home.
The plants will be a draw for beneficial insects and pollinators, aiding the vegetable growers inside the ACG.
“To demonstrate the skills and diversity of the Altadena Community Gardeners by cultivating appropriate native, Mediterranean and useful plants that produce the maximum benefits to the surrounding environment and community for the minimum amount of inputs,” according to John Lynch of the ACG Corner Revitalization Committee.

To raise the funds needed for the ACG Corner Revitalization Project, ACG has officially begun a capital campaign:

Garden Members are making project presentations throughout the community and are developing a direct-mail request. Altadena Heritage, Altadena Kiwanis Club, and a private donor have already backed the Project.

Any other potential donors should contact: (626) 470-7482. (The ACG is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent the law allows.) Checks should be made payable to Altadena Community Garden and mailed to:
P.O.Box 6212, Altadena, CA 91103-6212.
