A year after the Arroyos & Foothills Conservancy announced its plans to purchase 13 acres of land in the Millard Canyon, the conservancy will celebrate its purchase Sunday, Oct. 27 at Loma Alta Park.
The Oct. 27 celebration will begin at noon with a habitat restoration. The event will also include docent-led tours and a party.
To participate in the habitat restoration, RSVP to email@example.com. All hikers and restoration volunteers must park at Loma Alta Park, 3330 Lincoln Ave.
In an attempt to preserve the wildlife corridor, the conservancy purchased the 13-acre parcel west of the La Virna housing development in 2012. The purchase will keep the area north of JPL and the foothills north of Altadena open and preserved.
A biological survey conducted by the conservancy lists amphibian species such as newts and the endangered Arroyo toad as inhabitants of the purchased area. The survey also lists coyotes, bobcats and mule deer in the area.
