In an attempt to preserve the wildlife corridor, the conservancy purchased the 13-acre parcel west of the La Virna housing development in 2012. The purchase will keep the area north of JPL and the foothills north of Altadena open and preserved.

A biological survey conducted by the conservancy lists amphibian species such as newts and the endangered Arroyo toad as inhabitants of the purchased area. The survey also lists coyotes, bobcats and mule deer in the area.
