Kids Celebration Taking Place for Altadena 125th Birthday

The celebration is separate from the evening festivities that are more geared toward adults.

In an effort to offer kids a chance to celebrate Altadena’s 125th birthday, resident Melody Comfort has organized a celebration for kids on Saturday.

Comfort shared the following announcement on Patch:

A FREE celebration to allow kids to celebrate Altadena's 125th birthday will be held at the Farnsworth Park Mount Curve Pavilion this Saturday, November 3, 2012 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m..  Bring your kids to sign a birthday banner, get a helium balloon, and join in some fun Altadena-related activities.

The celebration will precede Altadena's 125th Birthday, a separate event organized by Michele Zack of Altadena Heritage and others that is geared more toward adults and will happen at the Davies Building at Farnsworth Park from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. It will include food, live music, a costume contest, displays from different Altadena organizations and more.

See more information about Altadena’s 125th Birthday here or on the event's facebook page.

Today was a great day! The kids signed a Guest Book, entered a hiking stick raffle, signed/drew Birthday Banner pictures, did activities: Make-a Fake Cake;Mend McNally Mansion [picture puzzle];Create Christmas Tree Lane;Christmas Tree Lane Coloring Contest;2 Word Searches [Altadena people/words];Made words from "Farnsworth";Fishing game;Ping pong ball toss;Horseshoes;& more. Each child received a helium balloon and prizes. Kids tasted grapes, olives, & oranges reflecting early Altadena vineyards, olive and orange groves. They ate treats donated by Laura Monteros [and clean-up] and Hugo [and party support] and had punch. My deepest thanks also to Debbie Collins [Ms. Dragon] for photocopies, enlargements & laminating; L.A. County Parks & Rec.; Elliot [set-up/clean-up/photos]& Shirley [financial] Gold & their son [clean-up]; Karen & Jeff Bramlett [prizes, fishing game; props]; Dolores Gardner [party support]; Our 2 mom contest judges; our mom punch maker; Dan & Patrick Comfort; Dale Comfort [financial, party support]; & those other parents who pitched in; and, Michele Zack [information, contacts]. Hope I didn't overlook someone. “In Altadena I have found those qualities that make life worth living.” [Zane Grey, Altadena Between Wilderness And City by Michele Zack, p. 126] Each day through our kindness, we continue to create the fabric of a beautiful Altadena. We should always remember that the children are its future. Our culture should always be inclusive.

Any one who took photographs: I have glossy photo paper at my house, if you'd be willing to print out some pictures for me? Not of myself, but of the children working on building Christmas Tree Lane, signing the Birthday Banner, Making the styrofoam birthday cake, or playing the games? I'd be so grateful. No working computer printer here.
