Mentors Needed for Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization

A campaign has been launched to close the gap between the nearly 300 children, ages 6 to 18, waiting for mentors in Los Angeles County.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles recently announced its inaugural "100 New Mentors in 100 Days Campaign" in an effort to close the gap between children in need of mentors and available volunteers.

To mark January as National Mentor Month, organization officials actively are recruiting positive adult role models to serve as Big Brothers and Big Sisters to children between 6 and 18 years old.

"Our need is great, we currently have nearly 300 children throughout Los Angeles County on our waiting list for big brother and big sister mentors," Big Brothers Big Sisters recruiter Spencer Brooks said.

"Most of the children on our match waiting list are boys or children from Spanish and monolingual speaking families who sometimes remain on our waiting list for more than a year."
