Saving the Cobb Estate from Development

The Altadena Historical Society will host Altadena teacher Bob Barnes who helped preserve the Cobb Estate from development 40 years ago in September.

The Altadena Historical Society has announced it will host a presentation by a former Altadena teacher who helped preserve some of Altadena's key open space areas in 1971.

The presentation by former John Muir teacher Bob Barnes, will be on July 25 at the , and the public is invited to attend.

Barnes helped to preserve the Cobb Estate, which is located at the top of Lake Avenue and is the base area for the hike to historical Echo Mountain, Mt. Lowe and more.

The estate was very nearly turned into a real estate development in 1971, according to the historical society release, and Barnes and his students helped prevent that from happening, raising $175,000 in six days to purchase the land.

Barnes will speak about the process and the obstacles that he and his students faced, according to the release.
