At least two bombs detonated within moments of each other near the finish line of the marathon before noon pacific time. Dozens are reported badly injured, with some possibly having lost a limb or two, according to the Associated Press.

Other news agencies are reporting that two more devices have been found in the area near the site of the original explosions and that the devices were being dismantled.

Deputies countywide will increase patrols at shopping centers, sporting events, government buildings and on public transit systems, officials said in a press release.

"The heightened alert of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department includes increased patrols to create a more visible presence where people congregate," said Sheriff Lee Baca. "As always, we encourage the public: 'If You See Something, Say Something.' The greatest deterrent to crime is often a phone call to law enforcement by a person who sees something that just doesn't look right."
