Park Bench Grill: There's a New Kid in Town

What's for lunch at Altadena's new Park Bench Grill? Maybe anything your little heart or stomach desires.

When it comes to restaurants and dining choices, Altadena -- unlike that big sister to the south -- is nowhere near the saturation point. And so a new face is always welcome.

The sidewalk café on Lake, once known as the Park Bench Deli, now has a new owner, name, look, and menu.

Owner and chef Larry Quishenberry serves up lunch-to-early evening meals, café-grill style. The Park Bench Grill features an extensive menu, from appetizers and salads to deli sandwiches and pasta dishes. What's specifically on offer? How about a Parmesan Encrusted Roast Beef Sandwich, Arroyo Field Greens Salad, Salsiccia Penne Pasta, or Southern Fried Chicken Breast.

"We're very excited and love where we're situated," says Quishenberry's wife Patrice, who meets and greats the guests. "Larry grew up in the area, and we live in Altadena."

And the redesign? "We wanted to create a lighter, brighter atmosphere, and offer a comfortable sit-down environment. Larry came up with a completely new menu, and everything we serve is fresh."

But, of course, the most important things is -- how does it taste? Who better to ask than Ken Bertonneau, owner of the venerable Fox's restaurant on Lake, and his wife Lorraine, both on hand for the grand opening.  “Oh, very good -- just what we wanted,” says Lorraine. “I’m impressed.”

Ken nods. “Fox's is closed on Mondays, so this will be our Monday spot.”

Park Bench Grill, Dine in/Take out, is located at 2470 N. Lake Avenue, and open Monday through Saturday, 11am to 7pm, phone 626-797-2740.
