Town Council Recap: Hahamongna Truck Traffic, Cell Tower Hearing

At Tuesday's Altadena Town Council meeting, the biggest item on the agenda was the Town Council candidates forum for the election next month, which we will cover its own item.

Otherwise there were some interesting updates on upcoming issues, but not too much action.  The biggest single deal is the impending possibility that County Public Works Department to haul 25,000 cubic yards of dirt out of Devil's Gate Dam over two months.

Town Council member Tecumseh Shackleford said the county is choosing between three routes, and the trucks could end up coming down Windsor or heading through La Canada Flintridge for two months this summer, starting in June. 

There will be an upcoming meeting at La Canada Flintridge High School to discuss the routes on May 26 at 6 p.m. We'll update that story fully with meeting details soon.

Other items discussed at the meeting:

• Some items of note will be discussed at upcoming meetings, including the plan to restripe Lake Avenue above Altadena Drive into a one lane street, a new parking ordinance, and the issue of reopening a .
• There will be a Board of Supervisors hearing for a at 147 E. Loma Alta Drive on June 28 at 9:30 a.m.  Several residents have shown up to previous hearings to oppose the tower and have succeeded in getting a hearing in front of the county's top elected officials.  Several Town Council members, including those who represent the area, have endorsed the tower plan.
• A County Parks and Recreation Department official gave the requisite monthly update on the proposed .  The county still does not have a vendor to run the market, but the official said the department hopes to have one by the end of the week. 
• Altadena Sheriff's Department Lt. Joe Dempsey noted that a couple of burglary suspects who were arrested by the Glendale Police Department were found with stolen property from an Altadena home, and said their arrest shows that the burglary problem is a regional issue that will take coordinated work between police departments.
• Capt. Steve McLean of Altadena Sheriff's Station said that the department is looking to find sponsors for local Little League teams.  We should have some more info on the site on how interested parties can contribute very soon.
• Officer Hsu of the Altadena California Highway Patrol station noted there were 25 accidents in town in April, 19 of which resulted only in property damage.  Six also resulted in minor injuries.
