Like with most things, there is a right way to handle the traditional Christmas tree and holiday season fire, and a wrong way.
Many fire safety tips are widely known—fire alarms, sprinklers, common sense among them. But chimney safety, especially around Christmas, may be lot less intuitive an issue than you think.
At a recent LAFD award ceremony at Eagle Rock Fire Station 42, Captain Tony Ortiz shared his safety tips for your fireplace festivities. He recommends annual cleanings, spark-resistant logs, a nearby fire extinguisher and a screen or glass in front of the fireplace.
