Week in Review

More burglaries this week as Pasadena Unified voted to close two Altadena elementary schools, the Altadena Town Council changed its bylaws, and the LA County Board of Supervisors voted to ban plastic bags in stores that sell food in unincorporated areas

SUNDAY: At least six new burglaries  on Saturday and Sunday. Many valuables were stolen, such as iPods, wallets, jewelry, a digital camera, and laptops.

MONDAY: Grace Community Outreach, a branch of Grace Community Bible Church in Pasadena,  into the old Altadena Nursery site, where they hope to hold community events such as a farmer's market.

MONDAY: Altadena Sheriff's said a shooting that occurred the previous Friday and left two injured on Lincoln Avenue was the result of a "badly botched robbery," according to Lt. Joe Dempsey. He said one of the three suspected robbers and one of the other robbers.

MONDAY: Shira Liff-Grieff  Monday that the owners of the Altadena Foor Fair Market have opened a deli on Allen Avenue called Cafe La Vue. The menu boasts Middle Eastern staples such as hummus, taboulleh, tzatziki, Armenian salad and lebni, along with traditional American cuisine.

TUESDAY: The Board of Education Loma Alta and Burbank Elementaries in Altadena starting next school year. Three of the seven board members voted against closure, revealing a sharp divide on the board about the effect this will have on Altadena.

TUESDAY: The Altadena Town Council to change their bylaws, adding requirements that would restrict who can run for office. One of the new rules includes a two year residency requirement in Altadena in order to run. Another would ban a former member that was under investigation by the council from running for office if they were found guilty or resigned before the investigation was resolved. TUESDAY: The LA County Board of Supervisors voted preliminarily to pass a in grocery stores, convenience stores and several other retailers for unincorporated areas like Altadena. The initial phase of the ban will apply to larger grocery stores in July 2011, while most other retail stores that carry food items will be required to follow the requirements starting in January 2012.

THURSDAY: A bike advocacy group and trails activists are  LA County and Pasadena to keep the gate at the base of the Mt. Wilson Toll Road open after dark. They want officials to provide more consistent access to the trail head for very early morning bikers and hikers.
