Windy Weather Expected to Whip Across Mountains, Valleys

The winds will blow at between 20 and 35 miles per hour, with 55-mph gusts.

Gusty high winds will whip across the  San Gabriel Mountains today and the Antelope and Santa Clarita valleys, forecasters said.

A wind advisory will be in force in the Antelope Valley from 11 this morning until 9 tonight, in the Santa Clarita Valley from 8 tonight until 3 a.m. Wednesday and in the Los Angeles and Ventura county portions of the San Gabriels, from 8 tonight until 4 a.m. Wednesday.

"A weather system passing through Northern and Central California this morning will generate gusty west-to-northwest winds across the region into early Wednesday," according to a National Weather Service advisory.

The winds will blow at between 20 and 35 miles per hour, with 55-mph gusts, NWS meteorologists said.

Forecasters warned several roadways could be affected, including the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway, Pearblossom Highway, which is also known as state Route 138, and the Interstate 5 corridor near The Grapevine. Crosswinds could buffet high-profile vehicles while blowing sand and dust restrict visibility, they said.

The NWS said the day would start off mostly cloudy, then turn sunny. It forecast highs of 62 on Mount Wilson; 65 in Newport Beach; 66 at LAX and in Avalon; 69 in Long Beach; 70 in downtown L.A., Lancaster and San Gabriel; 71 in Anaheim, Palmdale and Burbank; 72 in Pasadena and Saugus; and 74 in Woodland Hills. Wednesday is forecast to be sunny and a few degrees warmer.
