Artisanal LA Holiday Pop-up Shop

On December 11, the Altadena Urban Farmers’ Market (AUFM) will be featured at the Artisanal LA Holiday Pop-up Shop—a one-day showcase of local, handcrafted foods, held at the Armory Center for the Arts.

AUFM sellers will offer a variety of homegrown items, including jams, relishes, soda pop, fresh-baked breads, aromatic honey products and body care goods, as well as freshly prepared foods from the garden of Homegirl Café.

Additionally, the AUFM will offer three workshops on Time Banking, a growing movement whereby members turn their hidden resource—time—into an alternative currency. Attendees who sign up for market membership will receive two promotional time dollars to use with participating vendors.

The Altadena Urban Farmers’ Market was founded in 2010 with the mission of encouraging the production and accessibility of local food. “The AUFM brings together diverse community members to share their creations, buy and trade goods, rediscover essential skills, and meet and support their neighbors,” says Market Manager Justin Bilow. Through partnership with the Arroyo Time Bank, the market also makes locally grown food accessible to those with limited financial resources. “In a time of economic hardship and uncertainty for many,” adds Bilow, “this market has become a symbol of ingenuity, resilience, togetherness and hope in our communities.”
