Our Mission

  • To provide a full performing arts curriculum to students of all ages in a relaxed, non-competitive environment.
  • To develop and encourage appreciation and respect for the arts.
  • To encourage and promote self-esteem, discipline, family values through training and motivation.

Our Philosophy

Sue B. Dance Company ("The Company") is designed to enable and assist the community and families in meeting the developmental needs of their children. It is The Company's belief that offering artistic experiences in addition to academic programs will greatly improve chances for educational success.

School History

Eugene "Pineapple" Jackson started the Sue Carol School of Dance in 1960. It started in a garage that had been converted into a studio. His own children were among the first students.

In 1968 the dance school was moved to a building purchased by Mr. Jackson. They named the new location Stage Workshop. Students came from all over the Los Angeles area, including Pasadena. The students appeared in showcases and competitions, thus building a reputation of being a dance school of the highest caliber.

In 1983, Sue, Eugene's youngest daughter, started teaching dance for the City of Pasadena Parks and Recreation and for the F.D. Dancy Youth Academy. In 1990 Sue opened her own studio in Pasadena and eventually became a non-profit 501 (3) (c). Sue B. Dance Company is committed to offering an outlet for the creativeness of the youth of the Pasadena/Altadena community and surrounding areas.
