The ambiance and décor at Altadena’s newest café, the , is very inviting and make you want to sit down and chat for a while. There are a couple of outdoor tables with a view of the mountains, several tables inside and some comfy overstuffed chairs.
There is a beautiful collection of gallery art on display done by a local artist and jazz playing on the sound system completes the welcoming vibe. The café also offers free Wi-Fi and a widescreen TV.
My daughter Liz; 3 year-old granddaughter, Quinn; and I stopped by in the morning recently to check it out. The Sidewalk Café, which opened on April 9, is located on the southwest corner of Los Robles and Woodbury in the Hen’s Teeth Square (hence the HTS) development at 2057 N. Los Robles Ave.
We stepped up to the counter and looked at the ample menu board that includes coffee drinks, both hot and iced, teas, juices, specialty drinks and smoothies. Also featured in the display case, though not as menu items, are pastries, pre-made sandwiches and salads and chips. We opted for breakfast, with items from the oatmeal and parfait sections of the menu.
I ordered the Berry Berry Oatmeal, and my daughter ordered the Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal and the Mixed Berry Parfait. My oatmeal was wonderful! I asked for it to be made with milk and no sugar. There were beautiful big blueberries, blackberries and strawberries on top, and it was great!
My daughter gave her Apple Cinnamon thumbs up, too; that is, what she could wrestle away from her little girl, who loved it. The Berry Parfait was delicious, too, with the same fresh berries as on my oatmeal and crunchy organic Nature’s Path granola.
They feature Alessandro Coffee from Santa Clarita. I ordered a large drip coffee and liked it. It was a medium roast, aromatic and not too strong. My daughter ordered a vanilla latte and enjoyed it very much. I am looking forward to returning to try a green tea latte and maybe an Acai smoothie made with Acai and guarana with bananas or strawberries. I also plan to return to try one of their savory croissants, and maybe pick up a salad or sandwich for lunch.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Sidewalk Café. The owner, Kip was there manning the counter and he was helpful, friendly and efficient. By the time we were finished, Liz was snuggled into her chair with Quinn lying across her lap saying, “I don’t wanna leave Mommy, and I’m nice and relaxed.” I couldn’t say it better myself!
