Bulgarini Gelato Coming to the Altadena Farmers' Market

LA's best gelato—made painstakingly from scratch—will be served at the farmers' market in addition to its Altadena shop.

Baby, it’s cold outside. Well, at least it is if you’re a native Angelino.

So perhaps the Altadena Farmers’ Market’s facebook announcement that gelato is coming to the market starting next week doesn’t instantly give you a warm, fuzzy feeling. That is, unless it is Bulgarini Gelato.

A small Altadena shop that resides in the Rite Aid shopping center at Altadena Drive and Lake Avenue, Bulgarini has received acclaim from various publications and food critics as the best gelato in Los Angeles and has also sprouted a larger Culver City location.

But what makes it “the best”?

For starters, it’s not about being trendy and Italian owner Leo Bulgarini doesn’t have a problem giving you a piece of his mind if you insult his edible masterpieces. After all, he does fly all the way to Rome to source the pistachios for his signature pistachio gelato and if any ingredient isn’t up to par, he just won’t make that particular gelato or sorbet.

Bulgarini doesn’t use any mixes—unlike many of the gelato vendors in Italy—and the sorbet is equally as smooth in texture and tastes like biting into a piece of fruit.

And since Bulgarini serves seasonal fruit flavors, there’s something special in store even in the “winter” months of Southern California.

The Altadena Farmers' Market is every Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Loma Alta Park.

Are you looking forward to having Bulgarini Gelato at the Altadena Farmers’ Market?
