I will be happy with any nicely lit, well managed store

Whole Foods? At Lincoln and Figueroa? Yeah...right. But frankly, I'd take anything. There's a house for sale nearby, and the online description says that they're building a Walmart at that corner. Is that possible? Ugh!

Walmart! Look at the future of that: Noise, lots of people, lots of traffic, and no parking. And people want that for Lake Avenue!. No. No. No. Altadena is a quiet and quaint little community. We should not be encouraging corporate businesses here.

Oh dear, Wal-Mart makes sense in terms of the secrecy and they have plans to open many stores this year. They're also experimenting with Wal-Mart at any size as in convenience stores. Ugh!! Lincoln will never be the same.

Liz H, you have a link to that listing? This is an interesting development.

Here's the link: http://www.ziprealty.com/property/390-FIGUEROA-DR-ALTADENA-CA-91001/6177614/detail The notice is under the "REQUEST a SHOWING" orange rectangle

Thanks Ed for the link. I put in a call and email to the Walmart media relations team to ask them if they will be opening a store on the site. I'll keep you all posted when/if I get a response.

Hoepfully.

Yet we currently have a Rite-Aid, Ralph's, Chase, B of A, etc. AND people want to bring in a TJ's and/or expand Ralphs. Hmmmmm.

Maybe the listing meant Walgreens instead of Walmart?

And possibly the person was just not well-informed. I would not assume it is true. Hopefully I can get some info from Walmart PR.

Wow, so a quick Google turns up a number of stories covering Walmart's plans to open hundreds of small bodega-type stores, both in rural and urban areas. About 1/10 the size of the bigger stores (like the one in Duarte) and carrying grocery items, pharmacy and household goods. They view these as competitors to dollar stores. And one thing I read even mentioned that ship-to-store will be available at these locations, which is cool.

I would except a Walmart!

dan, did you ever hear back from wal-mart? or perhaps the supervisor's office would know - wouldn't there be permits pulled for something like that?
