Happy Ending for Dog Found in Chaney Trail Neighborhood

Rudy the Rhodesian Ridgeback, a homeless dog found in the Chaney Trail neighborhood in May, had a tough couple of weeks at the Baldwin Park shelter, and for a few days it looked like his life might be in danger.

Thanks to some local residents in the neighborhood and other local pet lovers, Rudy is no longer in danger of being euthanized and is being cared for outside the shelter.

Alice Wessen, the Chaney Trail resident who originally found Rudy, sent out the following message on a local email forum and has given Patch permission to repost it here:

Rudy the Rhodesian Ridgeback/Pit mix was found in the Chaney Trail neighborhood early May 2013, starving and dehydrated.  Several neighbors tried to coax him in, but he was remained shy and easily spooked. It was the friendship of another dog “Violet” playing through her fence with Rudy that finally brought him in. Rudy getting belly rubs
Rudy was taken to Baldwin Park Shelter, where he developed severe kennel cough. I visited him three times, scratching his head while he lay down on the floor so I could reach through the metal gates to his big ol head.No owner stepped forward.
No one claimed him.As a 7 year old mutt, now sick, Rudy was scheduled to be put down.
Phone calls and visits, some pleading and with a plan, Baldwin Park listened and held onto Rudy just a little longer so we could pull Rudy from the shelter to safety. Neighbors stepped forward, committing to his care and fostering. He is now at a vet where he is being treated w/ antibiotics, being dewormed, getting the care he needs.

He shows no signs of aggression at all w/ the humans treating him. He's being fed 3x/day & has a good appetite! He has a lot of weight to put on. Once healthy he will be neutered and will have a home.
