Readers' Choice Poll: Best Place to Go for a Treat in Altadena?

Whether it is gelato, cake or baked goods, where do you go when you crave something sweet?

So far in our "Readers' Choice," polls we've covered the Southern California staples: Where to get a burger and where to get a burrito (our winners were and , respectively).

Proceeding as one might after a delicious meal, let's move on to where you might go for dessert.

Altadena may not have enough options to qualify for multiple categories of dessert choices (i.e. multiple places to get ice cream), but if you are open to a variety of treat choices, there are options.

I've looked through our directory and here are some to come to mind:

  • , a well-known option for Italian ice cream with natural ingredients.
  • , where you can get a variety of cakes and baked goods (and see a ).
  • , which according to our reviewers, has fruit muffins and other baked good options.
  • , with cakes, baked goods and more.

Please vote in our poll below, and if you don't see your favorite place for a treat in Altadena, let us know in the comments.

Carmella's is close enough to be included. Their homemade ice cream is organic and AMAZING.

Coffee Gallery should be on this list--they have pastries and ice cream. I think there is an Armenian bakery on Allen, but that may be in Pasadena. It does point out that there aren't many places, and none that I can think of on Lincoln Ave.

@rebel mamma - I have been there and enjoy it quite a bit (though it is pricey for serving you get). However, to be eligible, the place must be in Altadena, and even though Carmela's is right next to it (and no doubt has probably at least half its customers from Altadena) it does not qualify.

Laura - I thought about them, and really you are right. They also have some coffee-based drinks that are really more like a treat. I'll add them.

Bulgarini Gelato hands down. All of my other treats like Popcornopolis and Dots are out of the area.

I added Rite Aid ice cream counter at the request of a Facebook reader

Good idea! We used to go there when it was Thrifty's and I had little kids. Now if only Baskin Robbins would cme back, or maybe Ben & Jerry's open a store....

After sampling Altadena goodies first - I gotta give a shout-out to Connals on Washington. They're Altadena-adjacent (!), and family-owned. Lots of folks head over there for their ice cream concoctions. I see that other people have faves over on the Washington/Allen area, which is where Connal's is. Burrito Express, Mission Liquor, The Lebanese Kitchen, Connal's, various Armenian pastry shops.....I vote we annex that little pocket of deliciousness and make it Altadena. Who's with me?

Bulgarini for sure!

Ice cream is delish, but it is not in Altadena.

I don't do it often (actually, twice) yet, if you're into desserts, it's hard to beat the price and quality of The Coffee Gallery hot apple pie and ice cream. Of course, they also have pastry all day long. Some of the other places mentioned below Woodbury are unincorporated Pasadena... but, not Altadena. Methinks Robby needs to begin his own survey.

Absolutely Bulgarini! Leo painstakingly makes his gelato with pure, fresh ingredients (no mixes) and actually travels across the world to get his ingredients, including the pistachios for his famous pistachio gelato. If it's not up to his perfect standards, he doesn't make it--and it shows.
