Week in Review

Lost and found hikers, a big Election Day voter turnout, a setback to AUSD, and a contentious town hall meeting about accusations of overzealous Sheriff's deputies were the big stories of the week.

With many issues at stake, Altadena voter turnout was unusually high this Election Day, but it doesn't seem like the "anti-incumbent fever" . Also this week, three lost hikers were rescued and Altadenans made their concerns known to the powers that be about alleged excessive use of force by local Sheriff's deputies in West Altadena. Read all about it below:

MONDAY: A lucky Anaheim resident was found by local rescue teams near the Mt. Waterman Twin Peaks area of the San Gabriel Mountains above La Cañada Flintridge after an  for the 44-year-old lost hiker.

TUESDAY: A big day for news not only for Altadena, but the entire country. Altadena voters turned out in unusually high numbers this Election Day, . See what  to Patch reporters Art Lemus and Brandon Hammerli as they exited the polls, and check out Dan Abendschein's  and  on how Altadena voted.

TUESDAY: If you missed Greg Middleton's opinion piece on the police controversy in West Altadena, check it out . He argued that accusations of violence against African-Americans by local Sheriff's deputies need to be taken seriously, but that no one should jump to conclusions.

TUESDAY: The trial of Altadena resident Ralph Wyatt, a registered sex offender who has been accused of criminally harassing two local women, . He was arrested in February for stalking the two women, breaking into their homes, and leaving sexually explicit and threatening notes.

TUESDAY: Also on Tuesday the movement to secede from Pasadena Unified School District and create a separate Altadena district was  when the county invalidated nearly 2,000 signatures from the secession effort's nearly five year signature gathering process.

THURSDAY: Sandy Gillis about the possible danger of Golden-spotted Oak Borers, which are small but highly invasive pests, arriving in the Altadena area this Winter, posing a serious concern about native oak trees in the area.

THURSDAY: Altadena residents with local Sheriff's deputies Thursday night at a town hall meeting intended to allow Altadenans to meet Capt. Steve McLean, who took over the local Sheriff's department earlier this year, and Town Council members. Check out Greg Middleton's to get a better idea of the man behind the badge.

SATURDAY: Two more hikers were and Dan Abendschein reported on the that Scott Gossard, the Anaheim resident who was rescued on Monday in the Angeles National Forest, took that helped saved his life.
