Community Corner

EAT REAL AT OUR FARMERS' CORNER! OCTOBER 24th.

The City of Pasadena Public Health
Department's Nutrition and Physical Activity Program invites you to celebrate National Food Day with us!

National Food Day is a celebration of healthy, affordable, and sustainably produced food and a grassroots campaign for better food policies. Food Day aims to help people Eat Real. That means cutting back on sugar drinks, overly salted packaged foods, and fatty, factory-farmed meats in favor of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and sustainably raised protein.

Since August, City of Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD) has collaborated with Muir Ranch to host a weekly farm stand, "Farmers' Corner", on the front patio of PPHD. Community members, PPHD clients and staff are able to purchase fresh and low-price California produce grown by Muir Ranch and other regional farms. All proceeds go to Muir Ranch, a program located on a three-acre farm at John Muir High School in Northwest Pasadena. The program teaches students practical farming and entrepreneurial skills.

On Thursday, October 24th, PPHD will be hosting a large community-wide Food Day Celebration, highlighting the Farmers' Corner.
Festivities will include:

  1. Healthy food demonstrations by Network for a

    Healthy California
    chefs
  2. Healthy holiday beverages
  3. Free nutrition resources (cookbooks, healthy Halloween recipes, tip sheets, etc)
  4. Prizes and games!
