BLACK HISTORY MONTH ART EXHIBITION OPENS AT ALTADENA COMMUNITY ARTS CENTER

The Altadena Community Arts Center continues to roll forward as an emerging arts venue in Altadena with the opening of its Black History Month Exhibition, "The Art of A People," on Saturday, February 2.  The event will feature an outstanding collection of African sculpture, including a selection on loan from WAJ Collectibles, as well as the works of reknowned contemporary American artists Michael Massenburg, Cedric Adams, Ben Sakoguchi, Timothy Washington, and Richard Wyatt, Jr.  If you missed out on the Arts Center's recent "Artists From the North Exhibition", it is recommended that you not miss this one. The exhibit opens with an artist's reception on Saturday, February 2, from 5-7 PM.   The public is invited at no charge. Showings continue Wednesday - Saturday, 12 Noon - 4 PM, thru Thursday, February 28.

The Community Center is especially pleased to present, as part of the exhibition, a series of symposia on "The Art of Creating Art", featuring talks on three consecutive Fridays by three of the artists featured in the exhibition:

  • Friday, February 8, 7 PM:  Cedric Adams, Muralist

  • Friday, February 15, 7 PM: Michael Massenburg,  Fine Artist/Muralist

  • Friday, February 22, 7 PM: Richard Wyatt, Jr: Fine Artist/Muralist

The Altadena Community Arts Center is located at 2460 North Lake Avenue (intersection of North Lake and Mariposa).  For information, call 626-797-5798.
