Bears Sighting Results in Student Escorts off School Campus

A Patch reader sent in the following photos of bears in the foothill neighborhood near the intersection of E. Loma Alta Drive and Glenallen Lane. Students from nearby Aveson Charter School were walked off school premises as a precaution.

A bear sighting in a foothill neigborhood above East Loma Alta Drive resulted children being escorted off the campus of Aveson Charter School on Thursday afternoon.

The bear, pictured above poking through a trash can, was originally reported in a backyard on Skyview Drive, and residents and deputies all got a look, according to a release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Nearby Aveson Charter School had its students escorted by Sheriff's Department off the premises at the end of the school day with parents standing by to pick them up.

According to resident Michael Opdahl who sent in the above photos, police, the Department of Fish and Game and news helicopters were on the scene, Thursday afternoon.

Later in the afternoon the department announced they believed the bear had retreated into the mountains and was no longer in the neighborhood.
