Sometimes the summer heat is too much for some, especially those clad in thick fur.
A mother bear and her cubs decided to take a quick dip in a pool in the unincorporated Kinneloa Meas area on Saturday afternoon. The bears were spotted around 3:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Edgecliff Lane, according to Deputy Fajardo of the Altadena Sheriff's Station. The Kinneloa Mesa area is patrolled by Sheriff's Department deputies from Altadena.
Altadena deputies arrivied to keep watch as the animals cooled themselves off until animal control officers arrived.
The bears, however, lumbered back into the woods before animal control officers arrived, Fajardo said. In all, the bears were there for around 10 minutes.
"It is always wise to give a bear as much room as you possibly can," officials said in a press release.
"Encounters with Black Bears have been numerous over the past fifteen years. Foothill neighborhoods are especially apt to have bear visitors during summer and fall months during years of scant rainfall."
The Black Bears were introduced into the San Gabriel Mountains in 1933. They are all descendants of 11 bears deported from Yosemite National Park for being troublemakers, officials said.
