Updated: Christmas Tree Lane Lighting on For Saturday

An event volunteer tells Patch that the group is now planning to hold the lighting event, as planned.

Second Update: Volunteer Linda Lane-White has conveyed in the comment section that the event is now going to go as planned.

Updated: Volunteer Linda Lane-White has some more updates on how work on the lane is going in the comments section.  Sounds like things are headed in the right direction.

The , which is scheduled for this Saturday, could be canceled or delayed because of issues due to the recent wind storms, according to Elizabeth Nelson of the Christmas Tree Lane Association.

Nelson said the group wants to make a decision on Wednesday whether the ceremony can be done on Saturday as planned or not.  If not, the group hopes to be able to tell people at that point whether the event will be just delayed or outright cancelled.

The problem, Nelson wrote in an email to Patch, is that the lighting on each tree need to be checked by county workers before they are turned on, and with the current backlog of work, it is unclear when that will be possible.

Overall, the lane lost one deodar cedar tree that fell to the ground, and various branches and split limbs.

Bummer. I hope it is rescheduled instead of cancelled.

I'd be sad if it were cancelled, but I'd understand. Thanks to the volunteers and to the utility workers for everything they've done. At least Bill Westphal's got the Star of Palawoo going! I was very cheered to see it this weekend.

I'm one of the CTL Assocation's board members. We'll be re-stringing lines and checking power boxes from right now through the rest of today and possibly tomorrow. We are being optimistic that all will go as planned and we hope to not be beaten by the wind. We have also received confirmation that radio personality, Tammy Trujillo, will be our Mistress of Ceremonies. We will keep you informed of the progress of the Lighting Ceremony set for Saturday at 6pm and the Winter Arts & Crafts Festival set for 2pm.

Thanks Linda, please let us know more when you have it figured out. Would having additional volunteers help or would it just be too many people in the way?

We made it up to Mendocino today tightening up the lines. We'll finish up tomorrow. The County will begin cleaning up debris on Santa Rosa tomorrow morning. The electrical lines are being tested NOW!!! I am so confident that we will have the Festival and Ceremony this weekend that I started putting signs out on the Lane! Signs were made last week when we found out that the company that we paid over $1,000 to for the banner (that goes across Lake Avenue), went out of business and took our banner with him. The County is doing a great job working with us in making sure our event happens.

Oh, and Dan, in answer to your question. There were just 4 of us on the Lane today. We can't have too many people out there because the roads are wide open for traffic. 2 men were in the trees on ladders securing the lines and 2 of us were on the ground. Thank you, though, for asking about volunteers. We WILL need volunteers in February when we have "take down"!
