Gene Stevenson Selected to Fill Town Council Vacancy

Stevenson, one of the co-founders of the Altadena Arts Council, is a former PUSD school board candidate and an active volunteer in the Altadena community.

Gene Stevenson, a a retired health nonprofit administrator and co-founder of the Altadena Arts Council nonprofit, was selected to fill a vacancy on the Altadena Town Council on Tuesday night.

Stevenson fills the vacancy opened up several months ago when former Council Member Alice Sarkisian Wessen left the seat.  Under Town Council bylaws, the group can fill a vacancy through a majority vote until the next election.

Stevenson will represent Census Tract 4603.01, which is the far northwest district of Altadena north of Altadena Drive and west of Fair Oaks Avenue (a map of the district is at right).

in last year's election and 2004, Stevenson first came to Altadena in 1969 and formerly served as director of the Jackie Robinson Center in Pasadena.

He runs the Altadena Arts Council, a non-profit which promotes art in Altadena and has at the Loma Alta school campus.

Stevenson said at Tuesday's meeting he would like to focus on art, education, and the new while serving on the Council.
