No Candidates File for Two Town Council Seats, Others Not Contested

A preliminary list of candidates for Altadena Town Council races posted on the Altadenablog shows that no candidates filed to run in two districts, and none of the other candidates will have an opponent.

Following Tuesday's deadline for candidates to file for Altadena Town Council, there are two races where nobody filed to run, and only one candidate has filed in the other six races, according to a report in the Altadenablog.

The chairman of the Town Council's Election Committee, Eric Pierce, confirmed the report, describing Altadenablog's information as "pretty much it," but said he would release official candidate information following a Wednesday night meeting of the committee.

In response to an Altadena Patch question of whether deadlines would be extended to find candidates for the seat, Pierce wrote that he would release more information following Wednesday's meeting.

He also pointed to Town Council bylaws which allow the Council to fill a seat with a two-thirds vote in the event that it is vacant.

In addition to the issue of having vacant seats, the Altadenablog's report indicates that the races that do have a candidate don't have any opposition candidates, meaning that the candidate would basically win by default.

The two seats with vacancies are in census tract 4601 and 4611, according to the Altadenablog report.

Tract 4601 is east of Lake and north of Mendocino, comprising most of northeast Altadena.  The representative whose seat expires next month in the tract is Gino Sund.

Tract 4611 is bounded by Fair Oaks, Woodbury, Lake and Mariposa.  The representative whose seat expires next month in the tract is Allan Wasserman.

Maps of both tracts can be found at right.  More information on the Town Council elections is available here.
