Updated: Town Council Preview: Farmers Market, MonteCedro, Elections

The Altadena Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. tonight at the Altadena Community Center. Below are some of the topics that will be discussed.

Tuesday's Altadena Town Council meeting will include the official announcement of the Loma Alta Farmers Market, which is set to start on May 30, as well as an update on the MonteCedro senior development at 2212 N. El Molino.

As reported last week, the long-awaited Loma Alta Farmers Market has been announced to start on May 30.  It will be held on Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The market manager is Joseph Shuldiner, who was an organizer of the original Altadena Urban Farmers Market and is also the director of the Los Angeles-based Institute of Domestic Technology, which hosts food-making workshops and other events around the county. 

MonteCedro's project site was originally the home of the William A. Scripps Home for Aged People, which closed in 2007. Residents from that home mostly relocated to an Alhambra retirement community run by the MonteCedro developer.

MonteCedro representatives have said they would like to open the new development in 2014

The rest of Tuesday's agenda is regular committee and public safety updates, as well as two community service awards.  The full agenda can be viewed at right.

The Town Council meeting is at the at 7 p.m on Tuesday.

Updated: Eric Pierce, the head of the Town Council's Election Committee, says he will also be presenting at tonight's meeting on the Town Council's upcoming elections in June.  Pierce will run the election, and will be discussing rules, dates, and other details at Tuesday's meeting.

Though the update does not appear on the agenda, Pierce told Altadena Patch in an email that he has talked to the Council and that they intend to add it.
