Trails Group to Discuss Cobb Estate Gate Proposal at Tuesday Meeting

The Altadena Crest Trail Restoration Working Group will discuss a proposal to put up a gate at the Cobb Estate at its Tuesday meeting, along with several other open space issues.

A trails group will discuss a proposal to install a wrought iron gate and fencing at the Cobb Estate, the popular hiking area at the top of Lake Avenue at its regular meeting Tuesday.

The Altadena Crest Trail Restoration Working Group, which regularly meets to discuss trail, recreation and open space issues will review the plan, which is being considered by the U.S. Forest Service.

The images at right depict what the fencing would look like - the first shows a gate that if locked, would block people from entering the Cobb Estate.  The second shows fencing intended to block people from hiking up an area bull-dozed by firefighters during the Station Fire, an area that the Forest Service does not want hikers using so it can re-vegetate.

Is it safe to ride horses and mountain bikes, or to walk over, the aging infrastructure along this route?
