Patch Blog: Women Rule the DNC

Dispatch from the first day of the convention.

I am writing this from the Time Warner Center in Charlotte during the the first day of the Democratic National Convention. Because I am an alternate delegate I am not on the convention floor and will not be there unless the designated delegate cannot perform her duties.

That being said, I'm happily ensconced in the upper seating area where I have a great view of the stage and the jumbo screens where we watch most of the action anyway.

I am seated near some foreign press and across the arena are the major news stations like MSNBC, Fox, ABC, Telemundo and others. The night is still young, but there have already been many stirring moments.

Right now is the tribute to Sen. Ted Kennedy, which is a definite crowd pleaser, particularly the debates with Kennedy and a then-pro-choice Romney, whom Kennedy called "multiple choice."

Women's issues and healthcare are at the forefront so far, as are LGBT issues. This makes me proud to be a Democrat. P

articularly powerful was Rep. Carolyn Maloney's chant "Where are the women?" Women will be the force to reckon with in this election. More to come later, but right now I'm rocking to Ledisi.

Bobby, you're just a little too close to the edge of the cliff for me to even play with. I could respond to your inanities, but it would just continue to crank you further. I could hand you a roll of tin foil to wrap around your home so they can't hear you and won't come get you. Seriously, Dude, i think you live to fight and got bored figuring I was going to be your target. Back up, Jack. You've already proven you're just this side of delusional, and not very far. Done with your silliness.

Good evening, Marty. Hope you had a good day. Very long one on this end with another family party (the second in two days). This one was in a lovely park in Yorba Linda, but the heat was taxing. Too tired to play the game with Margeaux. She has gotten a degree but needs a little more education in the school of life. There may be hope for her, but she's not going to be my pet project any time soon. Have a great week, Marty.

HEY GAYLE We can love each other.........and....... Our politics may be a bit ( or a lot) different and someday we will have to tussle the political points again. We are both adults and know how to hit as well as take it without taking the ball and going home. Marty

Marty, I think what makes us able to interact in the manner we do on this list is that we realize we are neighbors and Americans. We both want what's best for America. We just have slightly different versions (sometimes bigger than slightly, perhaps) as to how that happens. It doesn't make us enemies, and i rather think that, if we work together in dialogue we have a much greater chance of advancing our nation than if we persistently have this civil war environment we have experienced. It is quite simply not healthy.
