Blog: Costumed Ghosts Of Halloweens Past

Step back and remember the fun times you had dressing up for Halloween. I did and still look forward to it every year!

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays.  Maybe it was the abundance of candy, maybe it was the freedom to be someone completely different for a night, maybe it was just my inner diva calling out to me.  Whatever it was; for me, it was always a magical time.

Costume selection was a very serious task in my youth.  I can remember starting to think about it well before the leaves started turning (okay, so the leaves didn't really turn in West LA, but you know what I mean).  Was I feeling wicked? angelic? arty? avant garde? whimsical?  Since my mother was not the type to make costumes, I had to get creative on my own.  Sometimes it was store bought with my own embellishments, other times it was purely homemade.  I can remember being everything from Snow White, to an angel/devil combination,  to a 60's hip Go-Go Dancer!

My friends and I would count the hours until we could go out and trick or treat in the neighborhood.  We always knew the best and worst houses to go to....and the haunted ones as well!  This one gave out Hershey bars, that one only gave out pennies.   We skipped along the sidewalks, all the while acting out the parts of our yearly imaginary selves.  When we finally had to come back indoors, we dumped out our delicious treasures, traded for our favorites and went to bed with sugary stomach aches.

Well, many years have passed since those days, but one thing hasn't changed...my love for dressing up on Halloween!  While I'm too old for trick or treating, I still get a kick out of indulging my alter ego with a new personality each year.  As you can see from this photo, I'm still having fun!

Happy Halloween to everyone and just remember.....you're never too old to indulge!

For crying out loud! You can't even spell "secede" and you want to run your own state?

And no one is commenting on any stories anymore. This is because the new format is not userRead More friendly.
