EATON CANYON WILL BE CLOSED AFTER THE FIRST FALLS

I have been reading rumors for a bit that Eaton Canyon will be closed after the "First falls". Here is the information. It looks like Eaton canyon will be open to the first falls, as well as Idlehour campground. Here is the information

How much of the in-between will be closed, I am not sure.

I would assume this would have no effect for 99% of people.

Canyoneers, are not happy at all about it.

Five people have been killed attempting to climb over the first falls in the last three or four years.  From what I have seen, the people killed, and injured, are young, inexperienced, and have no idea what they are getting into. It doesn't mean they were necessarily dumb. You don't really know what you are getting into going over "razorback" until you are deep in it. From how I remember the one time I did it. It starts fairly easy, and it just keeps getting worse as you go. I was lucky, at 13 years old. My grip slipped, and I began my dive backwards, knowing I was going to die. I kept my mouth shut not wanting to take anyone down with me. The guy next to me slammed me back to the face of the mountain, as his far away hand happened to be firmly holding a small oak tree growing out of the side of the mountain. 1/4 of a second later, would have been to late. I never tried that again..... and its been many decades. My choice would be to build a regular trail to the "second falls".

The following link is a great hiking forum. Find your way around, and read all the different threads for anything hiking related for the Sangabriel Mountains. It is where I was reading about The closure before it was made official.
