Altadena Shooting on June 15 Possible Gang Retaliation

A non-fatal shooting on June 15 was possibly retaliation for a shooting that took place the night before.

A 21-year-old Pasadena resident who was shot in the foot on June 15 was possibly targeted as retaliation from a , according to sheriff's deputies, who added that there may have been a racial component to the shooting.

The victim, a male Hispanic, was shot shortly after 9 p.m. around the intersection of Figueroa Drive and Navarro Avenue, just a few blocks away from where the shooting of June 14 took place.  Police are investigating both as possibly gang-related.

Four black males drove up to the victim, asked him where he was from, and then at least one opened fire, according to Lt. Joe Dempsey of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Altadena Station.

The victims in the shooting from the night before were two black youths, aged 18 and 19, and detectives have a lead that the shooters may have been Hispanic, Dempsey said.

Detectives described those victims as "uncooperative" with police, but independent witnesses have been giving information to police, Dempsey said.

If the June 15 shooting was retaliatory, the victim may have been targeted simply because the June 14 shooting suspects may have also been Hispanic, not necessarily because he was involved in the June 14 shooting, Dempsey said.

No arrests have been made in either case so far.
