Altadena Woman Arrested for Identity Theft

The 21-year-old was arrested Wednesday for allegedly assuming the identity of a Georgia woman and obtaining a $5000 cash advance on the victim’s credit card.

A lengthy Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department investigation led to arrest Wednesday when detectives discovered evidence at an Altadena apartment that a local woman allegedly stole someone’s identity.

Suspect Ebony Vaughns, 21, reportedly assumed the identity of a 70-year old Bogart, Georgia woman and fraudulently obtained a $5000 cash advance on her credit card, according to a LASD release.

Vaughns was arrested at 7 a.m. in the 2100 block of El Sereno Avenue for identity theft and grand theft. She is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. Vaughns is scheduled for arraignment at Pasadena Superior Court on Friday.

In light of this incident, Altadena Station personnel remind residents to be aware of any unusual account activity on all credit cards and bank accounts. If you notice anything strange, report it to the financial institution and file a police report immediately.
