Altadena Woman Shot by Officer Felt 'Spirit of the Devil'

Katherine Marie Gordon, who was shot last week by a police officer in Minnesota, had previously asked police to be hospitalized and told them a "Spirit of the Devil and/or Satan" was inside her.

Katherine Marie Gordon, the Altadena in Minnesota, asked Edina, MN, police in July to take her to a local hospital.

"[Gordon] states a 'Spirit' inside her told her to go to the Police and she believes it is the Spirit of the Devil and/or Satan," according to a report by Officer Thomas Mason of the . "She states that if she is not locked up, she believes she may harm herself or others. She said she is suicidal."

Gordon told Mason she wanted to go to Fairview Southdale Hospital.

"I transported her to the hospital where they put her in a locked room after she relayed to them the same information she told me."

Patrol Officer Rob Zarrett on Thursday attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Gordon of Altadena, according to a statement from Golden Valley Police Chief Stacy Carlson. Zarrett initially tried to get Gordon to stop near 169. Gordon pulled over about a mile away, near the Hopkins Crossroad.

"The lone occupant of the vehicle, an adult female, was in possession of a handgun and was subsequently fatally shot by the officer," Carlson's statement said. "The officer did not sustain any injuries."

The , including whether or not Gordon pointed her gun at Zarrett or fired it.

Gordon's friend, Charmaine Wahlstrom Schodde, said, "Katherine was a beautiful woman inside and out."

In an email to Altadena Patch, Schodde continued, "She was meticulous and cautious. A good and loving person who had a gentle and loving spirit."

that Gordon lived in Altadena but was a frequent visitor to Minnesota.

Schodde said there's "absolutely no way that Katherine would have intended to shoot an officer."

Zarrett is on administrative leave while the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office investigates the incident.
