Body Still Unidentified From Monday's Fatal Apt. Blaze

Officials from the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office have not identified the man who perished in Monday afternoon's fire at a retirement home.

According to an official at the Coroner's Office, the body was burned beyond recognition and may take weeks for identification to be made.

Investigators with the Arson/Explosives Detail of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are investigating the fire, which broke out a little after 1:34 p.m. at 2691 North Lincoln Avenue at Friends Retirement Home. A cause has not yet been revealed.

Fire fighters called in a second alarm response to battle the fire and over 100 personnel worked to extinguish the flames, which were knocked down a little after 2 p.m., said Tony Akins, inspector with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
