Shooting Reported in Altadena Thursday Morning

Shots were reported at Lincoln Avenue and Harriet Street Thursday morning and police are still on the scene.

Update: Altadena detectives are seeking more information about the assault. Read their statement here.

Earlier: The Altadena Sheriff's Station received a call of five to seven shots fired in the area of Lincoln Avenue and Harriet Street at 8:56 a.m., Altadena Sergeant Burton Brink told Patch Tuesday.

A second call came in to police from an alleged victim, who claimed a man in a blue Nissan Cube shot at him but the cars next to him were hit with bullets.

"There was a shooting and a car was hit and no one was injured at this time," Sheriff's Sgt. Debra Herman said. "The car was struck several times with gunfire, an occupied car."

It is unclear if the alleged victim was walking or driving at the time the alleged suspect fired and if anyone else was involved in the apparent shooting.

No injuries have been reported.

Check back on Patch as this story develops.

I hope all the kids made it to school safe. I think the PUSD has a bus stop on the SW corner of Lincoln & Harriet.... Come on take this mess somewhere else - I would suggest that since these people wake up with evil on their mind - wake up thinking about who their going to shoot today & who their going to shoot before they go home at night that they be shipped to Afghanastain; Eqypt; Iran; Iraq - since they like to kill!! They are terrorist!!

NW Altadena has really become a Jr. South LA - I wish I could sell my house & move - to a better neighborhood - but where would I move to??
CSULA09 December 06, 2012 at 07:59 PM
I just moved to West Altadena last year. We live on a quiet street, but lately we have been hearing the helicopters flying over, and drove home to the sheriffs with their guns drawn at the entrance of my street. This situation is getting worse week after week. How can we get the police involved to help us clean up our neighborhood? This is distressing to think that I can be shot driving to work in the morning. Something has to be done.

I leave for work in the mornings @ 6:30 am - I have a 55 min commute - I'm not for sure if they're up that early - LOL- however, I do make it back around 5:30 PM, so the possibility of my being shot is greater at that time.....This is crazy!! Where are they getting these guns from? This weekend I'm going to go buy me a gun and start going to the range to learn how to shoot.....

Ha! I want the Sheriff's Department to do something about this. The police know where these people live who are causing these problems. They need to hit those areas hard and drive out these criminals. I doubt the criminals pay taxes, but I do and want to see my tax dollars at work.

we live in central altadena, but we are very concerned about the recent spate of shootings. the sheriff's department has said we need to form neighborhood watches, which are great, but in my opinion, law enforcement needs to take charge of this situation. it's really out of control. how many shootings have we had in last few months? at least half a dozen?
CSULA09 December 06, 2012 at 10:08 PM
Yes, at least 4 in the last month. Some guy was shot twice on Woodbury and Lincoln, another at a bus stop on Lincoln, a few were shot at on Altadena Drive on Thanksgiving, the Sheriffs were chasing after some criminal on Lincoln a few weeks ago, and then there was that kid who shot at a car a couple of months ago. This is what we hear about, what about that stuff that does not make the news?
CSULA09 December 06, 2012 at 10:10 PM
I would also prefer that the guys with guns go chasing after the guys with guns. What are we going to do with our sticks and flashlights. These criminals are not afraid of us.
Mike Roberts December 07, 2012 at 04:25 AM
If law enforcement knows who the bad guys are and don't do anything, shame on law enforcement. Guessing that they need to, first, catch them doing something bad. Just knowing where gangbangers live doesn't mean you can just go pick them up (even though we may want that). If you know the bad guys/where they live, keep pointing them out. Everyone has a boss, if you don't like the answer you get locally, go over their heads. There's NO reason anyone in our town should live in fear yet some do and that's not cool. Don't let your neighborhood be taken over by the bad guys.

At one time it was much worse. There seems to have been a resurgence of crime in the last year or two.
True Freedom December 07, 2012 at 08:03 AM
@csula: you are seeing your tax dollars at work: gangbangers living in low income housing, collecting welfare, grafting ther old folks welfare checks, etc @ericka: the cops can't be everywhere at once, they need us to be the eyes and ears.. especially when most victims don't cooperate.

I agree Isabella.

they can clean up a lot of "garbage" on Harriet street, alone. many shady thugs on that street. what about loitering tickets to begin with? most of them probably have outstanding warrants. if they start getting those loitering tickets and not appearing in court (as they often do), there's a reason to pick them up.

I think these concerns should be raised at the Altadena town council meeting. It's up to us, the residents to take charge and speak up. We need to get law enforcement involved and the Altadena town council representatives involved on taking more action to protect our streets. I know the town council meetings are on Tuesdays. I plan on attending the next meeting. I ask that other Altadena residents attend as well; there is strength in numbers. Let me know if any of you are interested in attending the next meeting.

There is a peace rally regarding the recent violence in Pasadena & Altadena areas at 132 N euclid St in Pasadena this afternoon at 3 p.m. It will include speakers from the Police Department. They can best answer your questions, I hope you attend.

North West area of Altadena is a diverse community in every sense of the word. Driving in any street we can find home owners who show pride in well manicured front lawns to well maintained homes. Just as quickly, you'll find the opposite. You'll find streets packed with older model parked cars and terrible looking homes. To give you an idea of the mentality of some of our diverse and eclectic neighbors, just read some of the comments made on Altadena patch. Specifically the tragic death of a single father of 5 recently, killed on the 134 freeway when his vehicle veered thru traffic lanes. There were comments made that was truly disgusting in every sense of the word. Isabella Baumfree, any neighborhood would be a better neighborhood than Altadena. Good Luck. Pasadena Star News has a more comprehensive coverage on the local violence.
